Bok Tower Gardens: Lake Wales, Florida
Last time I went to Bok Tower Gardens I had a disposable camera. We were two young carefree kids; I could have never imagined the past 22 years. This place truly holds a timeless beauty.
My husband took me here when we were dating. Hard to believe it was 22 years ago. Walking the grounds today reminded me of just how far we’ve come and the hard road we took getting here.
Okay, this post is about Bok Tower Gardens, not my relationship. But, I can’t help but acknowledge the sentiment that came alongside today’s family visit.
Bok Tower Gardens is located in Lake Wales, Florida. It’s about an hour and a half south west of Orlando and the same distance just east of Tampa.
Bok Tower Gardens
Bok Tower is a National Historic Landmark located on Iron Mountain which is one of the highest points in Florida. It’s estimated to be 295 feet above sea level. The view doesn’t even feel like you’re in Florida because who knew there was a mountain in the sunshine state?!
It’s not only a remarkable garden, but a bird sanctuary as well. The tower is 205 feet tall and holds a 60 bell carillon. You will hear the bells at specific times throughout your visit. The tower is not open to the public.
Edward William Bok, a Pulitzer prize-winning author and Dutch immigrant founded Bok Tower Gardens and is buried at the base of the tower near the golden door entrance.
Pinewood Estate is a Mediterranean style mansion boasting remarkable views of the gardens and tower. Unfortunately, it’s closed to the public right now due to – you guessed it – covid.
That being said, this is an incredible place to visit and spend the day. Their cafe has really good food, so you can bring a blanket to have a picnic or there are plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
Plan your visit here.

Beautiful. This is definitely on my list if we make a visit to see you guys in Tampa. Thanks for sharing!âĪ
Oh Donna, you would have an absolute field day! There were bees, butterflies and gorgeous birds. I saw the biggest woodpecker I’ve ever seen! You’d also be able to capture the intricacies of the tower.
I would love to go there with you and the boys when all this covid-19 is under control.ðĪŠð
You would LOVE it! ð
