Things to do in Watkins Glen, NY
(This is not sponsored content and the views and opinions expressed are my own.)
You guys, if you get the opportunity to hit upstate NY, visit Watkins Glen. It is such a quaint town with so much charm. I could have lived there BUT, too far inland for me and harsh winters, no thank you. There are so many things to do in Watkins Glen and the surrounding area.
Watkins Glen is in the finger lakes region of upstate NY. Specifically along the Seneca lake. You can find a myriad of activities in this area, such as winery tours and trails, water sports, state parks, museums, hiking, skiing in the winter and more but here’s what we did 🙂
Where we stayed
We visited the area in early August, it was brutally hot. (said with emphasis as a pregnant mama) I would recommend our hotel, it was beautiful and comfortable with all the accommodations you could need. We stayed at the Harbor Hotel on Seneca lake. We used the pool, hot tub and enjoyed relaxing by the outdoor fire pit in the evenings. The property is stunning and the docks offer great views of the lake.
What we did in Watkins Glen
We drove around Wine Country. One of my favorite trips was driving through wine country in California. So, being able to see wine country on the other coast was really special. I was pregnant with Atlas during this trip, so I didn’t get to enjoy any wine tastings, but the view alone was well worth the drive.
We hiked Watkins Glen State Park and it was as exhausting as it was amazing. The 832 stone steps were a bit of a challenge at times for this pregnant mama, but I did it! There was so much to explore here.
The Farm Sanctuary was an especially special visit because the farm is home to rescue animals. We took the guided tour, which I sincerely recommend. You will learn about humane farming practices and get up close to some farm animals.
Glen Dairy Bar was a great place to grab a cold ice cream and cool off a bit.
The boys really enjoyed exploring the Waterfalls in the area. Not only are they beautiful to see and photograph, but you can even take a dip and play in the water. P.S. It’s COLD! cross that. It’s FRIGID!
Next time, we would rent a house on the lake and take advantage of some lake activities. Have you been to the finger lakes?
