LaPorte Farms, Sebastian, FL
This spring break on our way from one camping location to another, we planned to stop at this hidden gem in Sebastian, FL; a very special place called LaPorte Farms. Inside the thick tropical surroundings lies 5 acres of pure joy where owner Laura LaPorte can be seen greeting her guests. Laura resides on the premises and turned her personal property into a non-profit foundation for the community to enjoy – built on the things she loves most, farm animals.
As you walk around the vey well kept grounds, expect to be greeted by friendly employees, volunteers and happy animals. You can truly see that these animals are loved by their caretakers.
There is a fun general store lined with funny signs such as “This cowgirl don’t call 911” where you can sit on the wooden covered porch in a rocking chair and enjoy the atmosphere. Here you can also purchase fruits and vegetables to feed the animals as well as some snacks, drinks and even farm fresh eggs.
My sister in law actually told me about his place after they had visited and I learned it was the perfect opportunity that my family had been waiting for. My 4 year old has been wanting to pet a cow for well over a year and visiting LaPorte Farms allowed him to do just that! These 10 month old sibling cows were incredibly sweet. We learned that LaPorte Farms had been caring for the duo since two days old.
At home we only have 1 cat, a very special cat at that, but that’s why it was really sweet to see my oldest son bond with a very particular horse. He was a stubborn horse, but somehow Robbie got through to him. Robbie spent quite some time forming this friendship that passed in a moment of time but will last forever in our hearts.
If you are near Sebastian, I highly recommend you visit LaPorte Farms, you will not be disappointed and you’ll leave perhaps a bit inspired. Be sure to check out the calendar of events, here you’ll find there’s much going on throughout the year.
