What does it mean to have faith?
In the Bible, the book of Hebrews tells us that faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Faith is believing in what we can not see. So, exactly what does it mean to have faith?
First and foremost, having faith is to believe in God & His Word.
Biblical inerrancy defined by Wiki is the belief that the Bible “is without error or fault in all its teaching”; or, at least, that “Scripture in the original manuscripts does not affirm anything that is contrary to fact”.
In other words, the Holy Bible is a true story.
What does it mean to have faith
Having faith is rooted belief in God and His Word. The same God who created the heavens and the earth and put the stars in their place – has a plan for my life and yours, matter of fact. So by faith, we seek God’s plans for us through His Word and being obedient to His Word transforms us into who He designed us to be.
My husband has been a great accountability partner. Those days when I’m fearful, stressed or facing uncertainty, he lovingly reminds me “have faith.” Two simple but extremely powerful words.
See, faith triumphs fear and the two cannot coexist. Even in the face of death, our faith stays focused on the promises of God. (Believing in what we cannot see)
Faith is an action. It’s choosing God’s ways & thoughts over our own because we trust in His plan & His promises for us. That means taking our negative thoughts captive and bringing them in obedience to God’s Word.
I love love love this description of “faith at work” in my bible. I typed it out for you and you can print it if you’d like:

Bible verses
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. Hebrews 11:3
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17:20-21
Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” Matthew 8:23-27
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. James 1:6
Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7
