2 Truths and a Lie

2 Truths and a Lie

I love to play the game & popular ice breaker 2 truths and a lie. If you haven’t played before, it’s pretty simple. You tell 2 truths and a lie and the other people playing have to guess which is the lie.

It’s a great way to learn new things about people! It can be surprising and bring some laughter.

Did you know that you & I actually share 2 important truths and 1 critical lie? Yep, it’s true, we have something in common!

Here’s the thing, not everyone knows this about themselves. And if you are one of those people, I hope things brings enlightenment to you.

Lie: Your past holds you back from a future

Listen, our past and our future can be as night and day, but it starts with our perspective and understanding of God’s truth. Our past does not hold us back from a future, that is one big fat lie. But sometimes, it’s a lie we actually believe.

Some of us have so much shame over our past that we don’t believe we deserve anything good. Lie.

Some of us can be resistant to change; habits can be hard to break. But change is so good! In fact, it’s a part of life and evolving as a human. Moving outside of our comfort zone is where we grow.

When we repent of our sins, we receive forgiveness and forgiveness does not involve torment over our past.

God doesn’t keep us in a state of condemnation and we shouldn’t do that to ourselves either.

“God removes our sin as far as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:12

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Hebrews 8:12

“Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

Truth #1: You are a new creation in Christ

I am not who I once was, this fact remains true for you too! Have you received Jesus Christ into your life but your past is holding you back?

Look at what scripture says about you!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”  2 Corinthians 5:17

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ, for by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:4-5

Truth #2: God uses your story to reach others – it’s your testimony

I can be transparent with you about who I once was because my story doesn’t end there. It’s about redemption through Jesus and the light of Jesus outshines the darkness of your past.

As a witness to God’s grace in our lives, we are now able to shine that light on others. I share my testimony, even the things I most regret, because someone else might need to know that they are not alone. Most importantly, being able to share the hope of Jesus to others is a gift.

This is how God transforms your bad into good and this extends from your own life to the lives around you. Your testimony is all about what God has done in your life!

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

Final thoughts

Be a light sister, because where you’re going, is not where you’ve been.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” John 1:5
